Something Spooky This Way Comes

Happy October everyone! It's the first, which means new release day over at So Suzy Stamps - I hope you're ready for some spooky fun.

I love the new little Halloween kitty! The sentiment is also epic, and did I mention we were given little chipboard pieces to play with? Oh yes, yes we were. The ghosts I coated with Ranger White Crackle Paint and the pumpkin I first painted with Orange Marmalade Distress Paint, then coated with Clear Crackle Paint when it was dry. They came out perfect and the pieces didn't warp at all!

The sentiment I simply stamped with black ink, but my kitty was stamped with black VersaFine then clear heat embossed for extra texture. Thanks to Pinterest, I found this great idea of adding on washi tape and those spooky eyes have just been sitting on my desk, waiting for me to use it.

A little blurry, I know, but you can really see the texture and shine.
A little layering of black and orange cardstock and this spooky card was done. I may have trouble parting with it!

Be sure to check out what the rest of the team came up with - we went Halloween happy this month!

Day 4 of GIU - Something Wicked

Good morning everyone, and welcome to Day 4 of my Growing in Unity week! I'm the Growing in Unity gal this week over on the Unity Stamp Co. blog, which means I'll be sharing a project created with my Unity stamps with you every day. I invite you to come back each day and leave a comment for a chance to be one of the (2) lucky people to win a bag of (25) Unity stamps! Woohoo! If you're new to my blog, I'd love it if you became a follower and join in the fun over on the Caffeinated Papercuts Facebook page or followed Caffeinated Papercuts on Instagram. :)

Just to let you know, I am reading every last comment you guys are leaving me. Thank you for all of your kind words and stories! In order to not mess up the winner selection I simply cannot reply to each one hence my silence. I do hope each of you will stick around when the week is done - I love having you here! :) Welcome to all of my new followers and to answer the Pocket Letter question, you send the whole letter - 9 little 'cards' tucked into a trading card sleeve page. It is so much fun!

I am certainly still on my coloring kick, though today it's Halloween in June! I really wanted to use my fluorescent colors and Hazel's tights were just perfect for them. I made my own background again, but this time with a stencil and glossy transparent embossing paste.

FYI, it had been long enough since I used it last that I forgot how much this stuff smells. :/ This is only a trait of the transparent paste it seems, but phew! The results are pretty amazing, though.

Instant shine and texture...once it dries. I hate waiting for things to dry. Ah well, while I did I cut down some Smoke cardstock into a top-folding A2 card and stamped up a shimmery pink banner for Hazel's included sentiment. Fun foam under my texture piece once it was dry for even height, then adhesive for the banner and foam tape for my girl. The result is pretty darn cool:

This witch is ready to party! It's very hard to see in photos, but there's clear Wink of Stella on the heart, orange petticoat, and the eyes & mouth of the pumpkin. The embossing paste turned out wonderful on this card.

See all the layers? Soooo much more fun that way.

Happy Halloween!

Boo! :D

I greatly enjoy Halloween; costumes. pumpkins, candy...fun times, my friends. Now if I could just find the house that gives out coffee...

cat in pumpkin card

I had so much fun coloring this little kitty in the pumpkin! I could also see one of our cats doing this, given the chance...I cannot find the name of this stamp set, though. Google has failed me! Noooo! If anyone knows what she's called, will you leave me a comment please?

I love the Halloween chevron paper, but the pattern is a little bold on its own. I used the Pretty Pink Posh stitched rectangle die to cut off a piece and a matching piece of vellum to soften it. To hide the glue marks on the vellum, I carefully added adhesive under the sequins stacks, the banner, and the kitty.

The kitty and her pumpkin were colored in with my Spectrum Noir markers, then popped onto the background with foam adhesive.

I stamped the Pumpkin Time! sentiment that came with the set in Memento Espresso Brown ink onto a scrap of this lovely ivory linen paper, then die-cut it with the Mama Elephant banner die. I really love that thing. Of course I HAD to add sequins, so for seasonal flair I stacked the 6mm tangerine and the 4mm onyx sequins from PPP in the corners, then added just some onyx ones to frame the sentiment. Done!

I'll be taking my little ninja turtle dinosaur rider trick or treating tonight (and collecting a candy tax). Be sure to stop by the Mountain Plains Crafters Facebook page all day today for fun Halloween treats!

Double, Double Toil and Trouble

Anyone who follows me on Instagram or Facebook will remember that yesterday I posted a teaser of spooky things to come:
Ghosts and owls and bats and spiders, oh my!
I have the joy of belonging to an art group locally where every couple months we get together and just CREATE. Tonight we meet again, and our "homework" was to alter a witch's hat and Tim Holtz clock. Tragically, the clock is barely started. I blame the fact that my boys want clean socks and spoons. Obviously they've become spoiled...my witch's hat, however, I'm bringing with me tonight to show off and I love it!
The really scary part is that messy craft table!
Oh this was a fun project! The base was a plain, kraft colored witch's hat ready for finishing. The top half of the hat I covered in 1" strips of scrapbook paper using Modge Podge. The brim was then coated in Modge Podge and topped with a glitter mixture I made myself; black, deep purple, and lime green all mixed together. I then hid my paper ends with some black grosgrain ribbon.
My little rat familiar
Once everything had dried, I added on my little rat friend here. I found him at Joann's and I love him. There's just something about rats and Halloween that just seem to go together. His little paws got glued down to the hat brim with the help of some 3-in-1.
My stylish owl familiar
Then I found my owl at Michael's. It's an owl. Wearing a top hat. Um, YES! His feet got tacked down with 3-in-1 as well, and he's so stinkin' cute. I think he and my little rat friend need names.
Boo! Meow!
Of course, since it's my hat, I had to have a Halloween kitty on it. There's little Salem, hiding behind the ghost tag ready to pounce!
Spoooooky Halloween tags
Speaking of those tags, are you loving them as much as I am? I inked up two of the freebie tags Unity loves throwing in with their orders. The large one is a mix of Concord Grape and Black Soot Distress Inks and the little one is Peeled Paint, Wild Honey, and Black Soot. The images were stamped with Black Soot as well, then when they were dried I added in liberal amounts of Rock Candy Distress Paint. I love how grungy and spooky they turned out! The ribbon I had stashed in a drawer and looks like it once came from the dollar bins at Target. Some Glue Dots holds them down nicely.
Scary spider bling
Finally, I added spiders; big, blinged out, spiders and their web. Yeah, they're pretty awesome.

I cannot wait to see what the other ladies came up with tonight! It's bound to be a good time. I'm linking up to Unity Friends With Flair.

I love Halloween; the costumes, the candy corn, the spookables. What other day a year do we have the freedom to get dressed up and party while eating candy? So, I happily drank my pumpkin coffee and ate my candy corn while I came up with this cutie-patootie card for this month's hop.

So, what did my pumpkin and candy saturated brain come up with?
Trick or treaters and batty bats, ooooo!
Here's a secret; I love Halloween bats. Love. Them. So I had to use the vampire bat stamp and have them following that cute little band of chickie trick or treaters. A little seasonal glitter paper, some ribbon and Liquid Pearls, and those chickies are ready to get some candy!

Top view in my cruddy craft room lighting...sigh...
Thanks for stopping by today! Now you're off to see what kind of Halloween treats Wendy has for you while I go celebrate my husband's birthday. Yes, there will be candy corn. :)

My Creative Time Challenge - Pinterest Inspired Project

Good morning everyone! After my craft show last weekend I decided to take a crafty-vacation and make things that I WANTED to make, as opposed to things I NEEDED to make for the show. It's going to be a short craft-cation, though, as I have two more shows next weekend! Eek! As part of my craft-cation, I decided to play along with My Creative Time's new challenge of making a Pinterest Inspired Project.

Piece. Of. Cake.

It helps that I'm completely addicted a frequent browser of Pinterest (you can find me under caffpapercuts). Seeing as I currently have Halloween on the brain, I decided to try one of the rolled-paper wreaths I had pinned. It looked easy and they even gave directions. So I cut up my Halloween papers using some My Mind's Eye pieces I got in a multi-pack and filling in with my own stash of black card stock and some pretty orange shimmer paper leftover from a wedding invitation order. I rolled them all up, glued them into the cones, then started work on laying them out.

Then I worked some more.

And more.

Then the muttering & cursing started.

I consider myself a skilled individual, but for the life of me I could not recreate the sample wreath with the materials they listed. The closest I got was half a wreath which made no sense as I was following the freakin' directions!!

So, I did what any reasonable crafter does at this point - threw the directions out the window and made something that made ME happy! I made a few more cones out of my black & orange card stock and made a fun, fan-shaped wreath. I used a half-circle cut out of a cereal box for the backer to give the cones something to hold on to and added twine for hanging. (Note to self: next time, add twine before you glue everything!) The middle is made from a 4" circle cut from the same cereal box and covered in Halloween print...I believe it's one of the ones from the Target dollar bin. Topping it all off is a chipboard Halloween kitty that I attached with foam tape for dimension.

So, what do you think? I'd love to hear some feedback! Any of your projects get completely changed about halfway through like mine? Please share!
